Takeley Local History Society: Review May 2004

The Society has had another successful year and the membership currently stands at 60 several from overseas who have made contact via the website. Meetings are held 4 times a year and we are grateful to at Takeley Primary School who allow us to hold our meetings in their hall.

In the last year since this last Assembly we have had:

Alfie Wright - Now and Then in The Five Parishes (Broxted with Chickney, Tilty, Great Easton and Little Easton)

Nia Watkiss - Seven Centuries of Takeley people --naughty and nice
and members open evening showing results of latest research

Don Dean (Agricultural Steam Engines and Equipment on Local Farms) and Roy Livermore (Takeley Aerial Photographs).

In the Service of Their Country, Takeley’s Service People of WWII by Bill Marshall and Pat Salmon

Reads of Takeley by Bill Marshall

We now have 8 booklets available and 5 more in the pipeline.

Continuation of selecting aerial photographs from the English Heritage collection at Swindon.

Discovering “lost” information in records offices, some in Lincoln, newspaper vaults etc.

We have started to transcribe the memorial inscriptions from the gravestones

We are collecting all the old Takeley Wills and these will be put on the website

The bound War Memorial book will be presented to the Church on 6h June.
